Kokam has developed liquid cooling lithium ion batteries suitable for marine applications which require safety and reliability in harsh ocean environments. They provide peak shaving capabilities along with momentary high energy bursts to enable both commercial vessels or offshore supporting vessels to save fuel and extend the life of main engines or generators.

BPU (Battery Protection Unit)

Kokam’s Battery Protection Unit (BPU) manages and protects the battery system through control, monitoring and safety devices. The BPU controls pre-charging to prevent the failure of the battery system and monitors the battery system in real time to detect potential hazards and protect the system by activating protection mechanisms.

Fuse design battery strings during a short-circuit or overcurrent event

The fuse is designed in a separate box and installed between the positive cable of one battery module and the negative cable of another battery module to enhance safety and maintenance convenience. The fuse details are provided below.

Cells are packaged in cartridges and Water Jackets are placed in between each cell for thermal control, which helps maintain optimal performance of the cells throughout their life cycles. The Water Jackets are made of thin aluminum sheets which enhance the heat dissipation capability of the module. Depending on the customers technical requirements the KOL module can be configured to increase or decrease its capacity and/or voltage.

The KOL Module is enclosed in an IP54 grade enclosure and is supplied with a Battery Protection Unit and Fuse Box.

ADVANTAGES

GENUINE SCALABILITY : KOL Module particularities
The KOL Battery Solution is comprised of multiple KOL Battery Modules configured to accommodate voltage and energy or current (Wh/Ah) capacity requirements. Due to its flexibility and compact size, the KOL Battery Solution can be installed in places with limited space.
CERTIFICATION
Kokams KOL Battery Solution conforms to IEC standard and classification society rules and its safety and performance have been tested and verified by 3rd party test facilities.
LIQUID COOLING CAPABILITY

Kokam’s batteries enhance the performance of electric boats. With a focus on high energy density, Kokam provides battery solutions which are significantly smaller in size and weigh less than competing products. These features support for long distance navigation and travel, for example, the battery system in a submarine is required to function as a reliable source of energy for long term missions. In addition, Kokam batteries’ superior power output is optimal as an engine starter power source.
